By now anyone who has not been stranded on an uncharted island in the middle of the Pacific for the past six months knows the “3 W’s” for minimizing the risk of infection by the coronavirus:
- Wear a mask.
- Watch your distance.
- Wash your hands.
At a more granular level, this advice can be expanded to 7 important steps, as follows:
- Always wear a surgical-style mask in public, and avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with your hands.
- Keep at least a 6-foot distance between yourself and others, and especially avoid crowded places and close contact with anyone that has a fever or cough.
- Wash your hands well and frequently with soap and water.
- Cover your cough or sneeze using a tissue or the bend of your elbow.
- Stay at home if you feel unwell.
- If you have a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, seek medical care ASAP—but call first before heading to the doctor‘s office.
- Get information from trusted sources.
